About Me

My name is Jason Kurylo. I’m a teacher, writer, sports photographer and family man. Before becoming an instructor at Vancouver Community College, I was involved in the Essential Skills program at Douglas College, where I helped to develop the curriculum for their ES Practitioner Training Certificate writing course.

I was born in New Westminster, BC, and have lived in the Lower Mainland all my life. I have experience as a writer, stand-up comedian, boot camp instructor and night shift grocery stockboy. (I’ll give you one guess which of those was my least favourite job.) I’m a firm believer in the power of positive thinking.

A big fan of good fiction, good diction and pretty much anything covered in chocolate, I recommend everyone try to be the best at least once in their life. To wit: along with five of my best mates, I hold the Guinness World Record for the Longest Table Hockey Marathon — we played for 30 consecutive hours in September 2013 to raise money for charity.
